Nana was my great-grandmother and any time we visited her home there was a batch of her special cookies waiting for us when we got there. The official title is Sour Cream Jumbles, but my uncle doesn't like sour cream so Nana didn't tell him what was in them. He could eat them one after the other so I guess her strategy worked. --Mark
Ingredients:
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
3 3/4 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla
Instructions:
Cream shortening and sugar, then add eggs. Mix in one cup of flour and salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Mix in sour cream and remaining flour, alternating between each. Add vanilla. Drop on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 400° for 8 minutes.
Notes:
Use green or red sprinkles to make a simple holiday treat. You can substitute butter for the shortening. This doesn't change the the consistency of the cookie, but the color and flavor will be different.
